Product Sourcing for Marine

Finding the part when the obvious routes have failed. Applied to the constraints that define marine: deck machinery, propulsion and shipboard systems.

Overview

Product Sourcing in the marine sector

Marine supply is a logistics discipline as much as an engineering one: the vessel moves, the port call is short, and the part has to be there when it arrives. We work to port schedules, supply corrosion-resistant specifications as standard, and provide class documentation where the equipment requires it.

Some requirements are straightforward: a current-production part from an authorised channel. Others are not — obsolete references, unbranded components on imported machinery, or a nameplate photograph and nothing else. We handle both, working from whatever information exists to identify, verify and supply the correct item.

Sector constraints

  • Port call windows

Delivery planned to the vessel schedule, with agent coordination at the receiving port.

  • Corrosion resistance

Material and coating specification appropriate to salt water and deck exposure.

  • Class documentation

Certification packages prepared for class society review where required.

Capabilities

What we do for marine clients

All product sourcing
01

Part identification

Identification from nameplates, drawings, photographs or physical samples where documentation is missing.

02

Cross-referencing

Equivalent parts identified across manufacturers with functional differences documented.

03

Obsolete component sourcing

Legacy references located through service channels and specialist stockists.

04

Authorised channel supply

Sourcing through authorised distribution or the manufacturer direct, with traceable documentation.

05

Consolidated spares supply

Multi-line spares requirements handled as one enquiry, one order and one delivery.

Process

How the engagement runs

  1. 01

    Requirement capture

Send whatever you have: a part number, a photograph, a nameplate, a drawing or a description of the failure.

  2. 02

    Identification

We identify the item and confirm it against the application before quoting anything.

  3. 03

    Channel selection

We source through authorised channels wherever the part is available there, and disclose the route when it is not.

  4. 04

    Verification

Received goods are checked against the identification before they ship onward to you.

  5. 05

    Supply

Delivery with documentation, and the identification recorded for next time the same part is needed.

ManufacturingEurope2024

Bearing supply consolidated across four manufacturing sites

Challenge
Four sites bought bearings independently from eleven suppliers. Reference duplication was widespread, stock was uneven between sites, and unplanned purchases at premium prices were routine.
Result
Active references reduced by 31%, critical spares availability improved to 96%, and total bearing spend fell by 18% year on year without any change in specification.

FAQ

Product Sourcing for Marine — common questions

Port call windows: Delivery planned to the vessel schedule, with agent coordination at the receiving port. That shapes how the service is run, from the supplier set we go to through to the documentation delivered with the goods.

Yes. We coordinate with the vessel agent and plan dispatch against the port call window, including express freight where the schedule is tight.

That is often enough. A clear photograph of the nameplate, the mounting arrangement and any cast markings usually allows a positive identification, which we confirm with you before quoting.

Only when there is no authorised route and you have accepted that after we have said so plainly. We do not present grey-market supply as authorised supply.
