Custom Solutions for Manufacturing

Engineered answers where a catalogue item does not exist. Applied to the constraints that define manufacturing: production equipment, spares and consolidated supply.

Overview

Custom Solutions in the manufacturing sector

Manufacturing procurement is a volume problem as much as a technical one: many low-value lines, several suppliers, and a maintenance team that needs parts on the shelf rather than on a purchase order. We consolidate that supply, standardise references across sites where it makes sense, and keep critical spares moving.

Some requirements do not have a part number. Bespoke hydraulic power units, adapted assemblies, retrofit packages that have to fit an existing footprint — these need engineering input before procurement input. We scope, design, build and test packaged solutions against the duty and the constraints of the installation that already exists.

Sector constraints

  • Supplier fragmentation

Multiple component suppliers consolidated into a single sourcing channel and document set.

  • Critical spares availability

Agreed stock profiles for the components that stop the line when they fail.

  • Cross-site standardisation

Common references across plants, reducing variant count and simplifying stockholding.

Capabilities

What we do for manufacturing clients

All custom solutions
01

Requirement engineering

Duty, constraints and interfaces defined properly before any design work starts.

02

Packaged assemblies

Power units, skids and control assemblies built and tested as a complete deliverable.

03

Retrofit design

Solutions designed to fit existing footprints, connections and control interfaces.

04

Function testing

Assemblies tested against the specification before dispatch, with the test record supplied.

05

Commissioning support

Support during installation and commissioning, on site where the scope warrants it.

Process

How the engagement runs

  1. 01

    Scoping

We establish the duty, the constraints and what the installation will actually tolerate.

  2. 02

    Concept and approval

A concept and outline design are agreed with you before detailed work proceeds.

  3. 03

    Detailed design

Component selection, circuit and layout finalised, with drawings issued for approval.

  4. 04

    Build

Assembly under a defined build standard with progress visible throughout.

  5. 05

    Test

Function and performance testing against the agreed specification, documented.

  6. 06

    Install and support

Delivery, installation support and commissioning assistance as required.

Bespoke hydraulic power unit built to an existing machine footprint

Challenge
A 30-year-old press power unit was failing repeatedly, but the available floor area and existing pipework interfaces ruled out any standard replacement unit.
Result
The replacement unit was installed during a scheduled weekend. Oil temperature stabilised 14 °C lower than the original installation and unplanned press stoppages attributed to hydraulics fell to zero over the following year.

Bearing supply consolidated across four manufacturing sites

Challenge
Four sites bought bearings independently from eleven suppliers. Reference duplication was widespread, stock was uneven between sites, and unplanned purchases at premium prices were routine.
Result
Active references reduced by 31%, critical spares availability improved to 96%, and total bearing spend fell by 18% year on year without any change in specification.

FAQ

Custom Solutions for Manufacturing — common questions

Supplier fragmentation: Multiple component suppliers consolidated into a single sourcing channel and document set. That shapes how the service is run, from the supplier set we go to through to the documentation delivered with the goods.

Yes. We work from a common reference list across sites, which reduces variant count, simplifies stockholding and improves pricing through volume.

Always. Nothing is built until you have approved the design documentation, and any subsequent change is handled through documented change control.

That is the usual requirement. We survey the existing installation and design to the available space, connections and control interface.
