The replacement is not always equivalent
Efficiency requirements have moved several times, and a motor installed under a previous regime may no longer have a direct equivalent. Frame dimensions usually carry across, but starting current, thermal behaviour and inverter suitability may not.
Check the drive at the same time
Higher efficiency motors can present different inrush and harmonic characteristics. Where an existing drive is retained, compatibility should be confirmed rather than assumed, particularly on long cable runs.
Plan before the failure
The worst time to discover a motor has no direct replacement is when it has already failed. Reviewing the installed base against current requirements is a short exercise that avoids a long outage.
